Or at least maybe, but who cares – it’s the weekend!
Anyway, it’s been a helluva week for my favorite artists releasing new material. First, it was Bear Colony. This evening, I received my pre-order of Electric President’s third album, The Violent Blue. Unfamiliar? Check out my Mos Defferson spotlight first then.
On a first listen of the new album, it’s amazing how Ben Cooper and Alex Kane have refined their craft as their discography continues. Songs off their first album (S/T) were really good, but definitely a little sloppy (of course, in my opinion, that was half the fun.) Their sound has just evolved so damn much between then and now, though. And that’s all you can really ask of artists you enjoy, right? That they keep advancing their work and manage to ward off complacency.
I’m most definitely falling asleep to this track tonight, which meshes nicely with the two hours of Bioshock 2 I just played. Please, if you enjoy, consider buying the album. Pre-orders are already sold out, so you won’t be grabbing one of those sweet terrifying monster/bear shirts, but I’m assuming more album orders will be ready to go sometime in the next week.
Electric President – the ocean floor
And as a bonus, because I like you all so much, I’ll throw in another favorite from the album with a far more awake sound:
Electric President – safe and sound
Don’t text me until 3pm, world. Peace.
I don’t give a shit that you don’t give a shit. I have been waiting since freshman year for new Bear Colony.
I spotlighted Bear Colony back on my old blog, about a year ago. I’ve been listening to their debut album, We Came Here to Die, constantly since the days of the dorm room. No need to really fill you in on the group’s backstory, you can click over on that link and check it out. They’re their own thing, but I guess if you want something similar, I’d say Radiohead? Definite electronica/alternative feel.
But the big news for Bear Colony fans is that they just released a FREE (as in, all free-like) EP, and you can download it. You can download the shit out of it. And you know that’s exactly what you’ll do. It’s just an EP, but it’ll hold me over until their second album drops sometime in the next few months.
(Oh and that blog also reminds me about this movie coming out this year, which will be every shade of epic. If you don’t know Tommy Wirkola and/or Dead Snow yet, you should study up son!)
So I have have been a huge fan of the electronic scene coming out of the UK for a few years now. Their dub artists are insane! But I mostly enjoy the magically foggy & haunted dub anthems that come from England. These spooky tracks define what it is to be English. Introspectively sitting in a dark pub, drinking dark beer , waiting for the rain to stop. (Kinda like a Guy Ritchie movie)
Here is one of my favorite UK dub artist, Burial .
Try and name all of the samples used in this song. Its not too hard.
Give new music a try!
Bonus Track: UK
Lost (Starkey Remix) -Gorilla Zoe
Another amazing Track from the Stones Throw ATL RMX album. For those that don’t know Starkey this is a great start, more of him to come.
…I had to make something with it. Jumping back on FL is like taking a college foreign language class after you only learned the words for colors back in junior high. You forget a lot and look dumb in the process. That would have sounded incredibly more profound if Tom Hanks said it.
But yeah, here’s what I got after killing an hour or two on it tonight. I don’t pretend to be good at this. It’s just for boredom. So without further disclaimer:
Now please give me money. Kthnx.

Gone ( Nosaj Thing Remix)
Nosaj Thing is easily my favorite new producer/musician from LA and Donnis has ATL on lock!
New Hollertronix track! A must have for any party line up or while singing Christina Aguilera tracks. Its also a great jam for some good old Jamacian daggering! Grab a partner to dagger (like the fellow below) and go get it!

Daggering Official Definition:
This is a Dancehall.Mobi definition of a term or phrase that is popular in the dancehall and / or in the lyrics of Jamaican deejays and singers.
What is daggering? Some call it “dry sex” on the dance floor of a dance or party, but daggering is where a man and woman are dancing in a sexually provocative manner, which usually includes them simulating various sexual positions, and often times, rough sex, to the beat of whatever music is playing at the time. In recent times, dancehall artistes RDX and Mr. Vegas have both released daggering songs in tribute to the newly accepted name for an action / activity that has been present in Jamaica’s dancehalls for many years.
